In an era of historic wealth transfer and rising expectations around purpose, VAR Capital believes responsibility and returns cannot be separated. As a multi-family office, we see wealth stewardship as more than managing assets – it’s about legacy, education and impact. At VAR, ESG isn’t an add-on or policy document, it’s embedded in how we assess risk, advise clients, prepare the next generation, and contribute to our communities. From investment decisions to daily conversations, ESG connects long term financial performance with the values that help families and organisations thrive across generations.

- How do you ensure that ESG principles are embedded across all levels of your organisation, from strategy to daily decision-making?
At VAR Capital, ESG is embedded through our focus on responsible stewardship, long-term thinking and strong governance. As a multi-family office managing almost $2 billion of client assets, we believe our role extends beyond investment returns to helping families preserve wealth responsibly across generations.
From an investment perspective, we incorporate ESG considerations as part of our broader due diligence and risk management framework. We believe companies with strong governance, aligned management teams and sustainable business models are better positioned to create long-term value for shareholders.
Beyond investing, we support educational and charitable initiatives through mentoring, trustee education and providing investment expertise to charitable organisations. ESG is not a standalone initiative at VAR, it is reflected in how we advise clients, prepare the next generation for future responsibility and contribute to our wider communities.
- In what ways have your colleagues contributed to making an impact, both internally and externally?
Our colleagues contribute to making an impact through education, mentoring and the transfer of knowledge. Internally, we dedicate significant time to preparing the next generation of our client families for future responsibility. These programmes are designed to improve financial literacy, encourage engagement and strengthen intergenerational understanding.
Externally, members of our investment team actively support aspiring finance professionals. Investment Director Jonathan Eldridge recently worked with students from the UCL Asset Management Society, mentoring participants, judging stock-pitch competitions and supporting internship opportunities. This culminated in a student being offered an internship with VAR Capital and the potential pathway to a permanent role.
Our leadership team is also actively involved in wider social initiatives. CEO Vikash Gupta contributes to the Centre for Responsible Leadership at Imperial Business School, helping shape its strategic direction and influence. In addition, VAR Capital funds the education of five gifted children in India and supports charitable and community-focused initiatives both financially and through professional expertise.
- Looking ahead, how will you maintain your leadership in ESG? Are there new initiatives or innovations on the horizon?
Our focus over the coming years is on expanding financial education, supporting charitable organisations and strengthening responsible stewardship across generations.
We are currently broadening our next-generation programme to include practical topics such as budgeting, debt management, mortgages and property ownership, recognising that effective wealth management extends beyond investment knowledge alone.
We also see significant opportunity to improve outcomes for charities and foundations. Through our research and advocacy work, we are encouraging charities to adopt more structured investment frameworks that align capital with mission, improve governance and preserve purchasing power over the long term.
As our business expands internationally with our new office in the UAE, we remain committed to combining investment excellence with meaningful social impact, ensuring that growth strengthens rather than dilutes our values.
- What difference do you hope winning this award will make for your business, your colleagues, and your clients?
Winning this award would provide valuable recognition for the work our team has undertaken to demonstrate that strong investment outcomes and positive social impact can go hand in hand.
For our colleagues, it would recognise the significant amount of time and effort invested in mentoring students, supporting charities, educating future generations and contributing to wider community initiatives. For our clients, it would reinforce our commitment to responsible stewardship and long-term thinking.
Most importantly, we hope it would help raise awareness of the importance of financial education, intergenerational planning and sustainable wealth management. As one of the largest wealth transfers in history takes place globally, helping families, charities and future beneficiaries make informed decisions has never been more important.
